Get answers to tricky Reg E/overdraft compliance issues
Implementation of the Reg E changes requires credit unions to develop an "opt-in" program if they plan to continue assessing overdraft fees after July 1 on ATM and one-time debit card transactions that overdraw a consumer's account. Just added to the Ohio Credit Union League ZENITH10 schedule, the “Overdraft Opt-In and Reg E: Protecting Your Credit Union” session will eliminate the confusion and misinformation surrounding the Reg E revisions, and provide a clear understanding of how to protect your credit union.

Grants from Ohio CU Foundation make things happen
Is your budget holding you back from starting a financial education program, a community outreach project, or attending an educational opportunity? Assistance is available from the Ohio Credit Union Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Ohio Credit Union League that supports educational and outreach initiatives promoting financial independence through credit unions.

 

Grant application deadline for CUNA Management School approaches
Individuals interested in receiving financial assistance to attend the CUNA Management School can apply for the Ohio Credit Union Foundation’s Jacquie Fisher Memorial Scholarship to cover their tuition, which includes room and board. Applications are due April 30, and notification of award will occur May 28.

 

OSC, CMG are Marching Miles super heroes; Lots of ways to get involved
OCUL Services Corporation (OSC) and CUNA Mutual Group (CMG) have stepped up as Super Hero Sponsors of the 2010 Ohio Credit Unions: Marching Miles for Miracle Kids. Each company donated $7,500 to the annual fundraiser benefiting the Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) and Ohio’s children’s hospitals.

 

Support state and national outreach endeavors, Invest in CIF
River Valley Credit Union has joined 48 of its peers in supporting the Ohio Credit Union Foundation (OCUF) via the Community Investment Fund (CIF). The unique social investment offers credit unions an opportunity to practice the “People Helping People” philosophy on a state and national level. CIF dividends are paid to the participating credit union, while up to 2% are split between the National Credit Union Foundation and OCUF.

 

Month’s media talking points echo public funds advocacy message
Including credit unions as a choice of depositories for public funds is the focus of March’s Monthly Media Talking Points. Created by the Ohio Credit Union League to help credit union leaders start conversations with their local media, the talking points correspond with the key messages that will be delivered during the 2010 Credit Union Day at the Statehouse on March 23.

 

Open-forum annual “town hall” meetings set for fall
Mark your calendar to attend one of the six “Town Hall” meetings planned throughout the state this fall by the Ohio Credit Union League. The meetings are part of the League’s commitment to a continued open dialogue with all Ohio credit unions. For the fifth consecutive year, the meetings will examine emerging issues in the Credit Union Movement and detail the value of the League.

 

iPhone Shared Branching locator application available
A Shared Branching locator application has been released for Apple’s iPhone. Since its release in late February, the application has received high praise from users. The free application can be downloaded through the “App Store” on any iPhone or iPod Touch by searching “CO-OP Financial Services” or “Find Branch.”

 

Allow members to make deposits from home
In addition to Shared Branching, the partnership between OCUL Services Corporation (OSC) and CO-OP Financial Services offers other opportunities to expand your credit union’s member services. My Deposit utilizes the newest check imaging technology to give members a credit union “branch” right in their own homes or small businesses.

And while this year’s Marching Miles route doesn’t pass through its area, Millstream Area Credit Union in Findlay is taking the opportunity to conduct a local kids fundraiser to support the statewide event.

Ohio’s CU public funds bill has second, third hearings
Ohio legislation to include credit unions as a choice of depositories for public funds, House Bill 317, had its second and third hearings before the House Financial Institutions, Real Estate & Securities Committee earlier this month.

Compliance is one of the greatest challenges facing Ohio’s credit unions. To help credit unions manage these burdens, several sessions at the Ohio Credit Union League ZENITH10 are dedicated to tackling today’s most pressing compliance issues.

 

OCUL submits comment letter on NCUA’s corporate proposal
The Ohio Credit Union League submitted it official comment letter to the National Credit Union Administration regarding its proposed corporate credit union regulatory changes (12 CFR Part 704). The League’s comments focused on three primary themes of need, principles, and cautions.

 

New phone, e-mail for League compliance services
The Ohio Credit Union League has enhanced its compliance hotline and e-mail services in order to better serve the compliance needs of Ohio’s credit unions. The League takes its compliance obligations seriously, and has refined its compliance and regulatory services by creating a dedicated hotline and e-mail address exclusively for compliance queries and questions.
